A philological study on poisoning of Bufonis Venenum(蟾수)

Abstract

|
Bufonis Venenum is in use in oriental medicine. Oriental medical doctors use Bufonis Venenum for inducing resuscitation(開竅) and exerting a tonic effect on the heart(强心), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Bufonis Venenum. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The main ingredients of poisoning are bufotoxin, etc. The ingredients of poisoning from Bufonis Venenum mainly cause symptoms on the heart and blood vessel system, digestive system, nervous system and respiratory system, etc. 2. The representative methods of poisoning treatment in oriental medicine take advantage of herbs, such as Lithospermi Radix(紫草), Phragmitis Rhizoma(온根), Rhei Radic et Rhizoma (大黃), etc. And Oriental medical doctor should meet symptoms as patients call for attention. 3. The representative methods in poisoning treatments in western medicine are taking an antidote for poison from Bufonis Venenum and washing out the stomach, promotion of vomiting, causing diarrhea, fluid infusion and symptomatic treatment, etc. 4. In order to prevent against poisoning of Bufonis Venenum, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
